Free Nutritious Meals Program Reaches 5.6 Million Beneficiaries as of July 1, 2025, Most in West Java
Jakarta – Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program has successfully reached 5.6 million beneficiaries as of July 1, 2025, according to Prof. Dr. Ir. Ikeu Tanziha, Special Staff at the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). She shared this update during the PERSAGI Scientific Forum held in Jakarta on Friday (July 11, 2025).
Prof. Ikeu highlighted that the majority of beneficiaries are school-aged children, especially in West Java, which has the highest number of recipients due to its dense population.
Detailed Breakdown of MBG Beneficiaries:
-
Elementary School Students: 2.39 million
-
Junior High School Students: 1.53 million
-
Senior High School Students: 1.16 million

To support the daily provision of nutritious meals, 1,836 Nutrition Service Units (SPPGs) have been established throughout the country.
“Most SPPGs are located on Java Island, particularly in West Java. In fact, 60 percent of SPPGs are based in Java due to the high concentration of children,” Prof. Ikeu stated.
The National Nutrition Agency aims to expand the number of SPPGs to 32,000 units to serve a projected 82 million beneficiaries, as part of President Prabowo’s broader initiative to improve national nutrition standards.
“In remote and underdeveloped regions, the development of SPPGs is being adapted to suit local conditions using tailored approaches,” she added.
The MBG program is seen as a key initiative to combat stunting and malnutrition, ensuring that Indonesia's younger generations grow up healthy, smart, and ready to contribute to national progress.
